HBOT for Sports
Performance enhancement
Increasing your blood oxygen levels with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) speeds up your recovery from sports competition, training and injuries. Greater training potential and supercharged recovery boosts your sporting performance so you can go harder, faster, stronger towards your ultimate goal.
You can use HBOT before training to allow you to train longer and harder – giving you the edge and getting you closer to your performance goals.
Using HBOT after training aids your cell recovery, so you can train harder and more frequently with less downtime.
Whatever your sport, competition pushes your mind and body to the limit. HBOT can deliver the most effective post-competition recovery and get you ready for your next challenge.
Sports Injuries
A sporting injury can be debilitating and depressing, particularly in the run up to a competition. HBOT can reduce your injury rehabilitation time by ensuring that the additional oxygen reaches damaged tissues and helps them to heal faster. Swelling and inflammation is also reduced and your immune system receives a boost, reducing the risk of infection.
We have seen patients’ cut their recovery time by up to 50% through the use of HBOT – that means that what would normally take you 8 weeks to fully recover from, could take as little as 4 weeks with HBOT.
For broken bones, the additional oxygen promotes the production of the cells necessary for bone growth, and stimulates production of the stem cells your body needs to repair itself – resulting in quicker, more effective healing.
Many famous elite athletes have made HBOT part of their recipe for success, and now you can too at Oxylode.
Fracture recovery and repair
Scientific studies have shown that HBOT stimulates the production of collagen, a tough, fibrous material that fills the space between broken bones and helps ‘knit’ them back together. Hyperbaric oxygen also promotes fast growth of new capillaries in affected areas, which in turn brings more oxygen and nutrients to the bones.
In particular, additional oxygen increases production of osteoblasts and osteoclasts, the cells vital for bone growth, healing and the removal of old, dead bone. Numerous studies have demonstrated that osteoblasts and osteoclasts are exquisitely reactive to increased oxygen. In 2007, D. Wu et al conducted an experiment for Connective Tissue Research, investigating in vitro the effects of hyperbaric oxygen on osteoblasts, the cells responsible for synthesising bone. They observed that HBOT stimulated proliferation of osteoblasts, providing direct cellular evidence that HBOT is effective for fracture healing and bone growth.
HBOT is also scientifically proven to reduce swelling and inflammation, improve circulation, boost the immune system, and suppress infection. This is particularly important for tibia/fibular fractures, which have a poor blood supply. Additionally, HBOT helps bone grafts to ‘take’ and heal with fewer complications.
Its positive effects on bone and soft tissue regeneration have made hyperbaric oxygen a sought-after treatment in the sporting community. The process is used by professional footballers and performance athletes for cutting their injury recovery times in half.
